Ambition, Exhaustion, Evita
“What’s new Buenos Aires?!” Eva Peron sings as she crosses the stage and in the latest take on “Evita” playing at New York City Center you see two Evitas dominate this song and this stage, one young and ready to conquer the city, while the older and wiser version is well on her way to doing just that.
I’ve always loved “Evita” because at its’ core it’s about ambition. Ambition is something I know well and unapologetically. As a woman in any industry, it’s not easy to want to do well and to be accepted for wanting just that. Why is it bad to be ambitious?
Furthermore, if ambition breeds those who are willing to work hard to get further ahead, why should that ever be an issue regardless of sex?
I have been hustling like you wouldn’t believe. My new business is six months old and going rather well. I have nice group of clients who challenge me daily and whose work I am passionate about. And when I’m not working, I’m seeing new shows, meeting new people, trying to help those trying to make it in this business.
Beyond the work, there are the three kids that need their mom and there’s the husband who’s rolling with it all like a champ. I was a stock he was willing to bet on and here’s hoping I return. I am supporting my family, our future. I’m following what I love and staying awake thinking about what else I could change or…
