Career Evolution: 5 Questions to Help Figure Out What’s Next
“It only took twenty years”, he told me as we sipped cider and watched a light rain spread a bit of Spring over Albany, “and twenty years is long enough for Albany to get itself together and for us to figure ourselves out.”
I was spending the weekend Upstate with one of my oldest friends from college and we’d found a neighborhood in Albany that was way cooler than anything we’d imagined when we went to Bennington. Old factories had become hip restaurants and bars. Art had appeared on once empty walls. And the energy of the city had shifted somehow, and a newness made us feel like we needed to come here more often.
It wasn’t just Albany he was talking about. We have both been undergoing either personal or professional evolutions. We understood we could never go home again, or back to college, we were here now and happier for that. But the theme of the weekend was established. We were both staying true to ourselves and yet understanding change was inevitable.
