The In-Between: 6 Thing to Do when you transition to another job

I’m starting a new job in a week. And yes, I’m excited. I’m also feeling a little sentimental leaving a team I love and a company I worked extremely hard for.
Like so many people, I have changed jobs before and read lots of articles on how to make a fresh start in a new role but very few writers talk about what you can do as you hurry up and wait for your next adventure while not burning any bridges behind you.
So, here’s six things you should try and do before you leave any job:
- Give a reasonable end date-Depending on your position, most jobs like it when you give at least two-weeks-notice as you announce your departure. In my latest move, I gave a month. I had a team reporting in to me and lots of training to do before I was done. However long you give, try to set a date and stick to it.
- Train your replacement- It may take your boss a little bit of time to figure out how to either replace you with a new hire or decide who they want to give your responsibilities to internally. Create a transition doc so you can give the best explanation of all you did. Be available to meet and answer questions. Take your time going over each and every thing you do. Remember no one is irreplaceable. But do be honest about the good and the bad. You want to prepare the person…
