Why I’m choosing to be political in private
It’s election time everyone and politics can be polarizing. This year, I have a new approach.
The last election cycle, I was very vocal about my chosen candidate and my political ideals. I wrote about it a lot. After the election, I even briefly considered running for local office myself. I did all of this very publicly.
This time around, circumstances are different. I’m freelancing and tend to get googled often. I would rather potential clients see my passion for what I do and my personality. So, I’m choosing to keep my political opinion off of social media.
I will not discourage anyone else from posting about who they want to vote for. I love following this story as it unfolds. I will still like your post if you talk about your candidate, it may even sway my opinion or inspire me to make a campaign donation. Personally, I’m posting about the latest musical I saw, or which prom dress my kid picked out or some fascinating article about how color affects branding.
“Is this cowardice?”, I’ve asked myself. And my answer is “no”. Here are my rules:
